The current pandemic of Coronavirus has changed the way we work and live. At particular risk are people over 60, but even the young can fall victim for no other reason than they became infected.
It has been identified that any procedure around the face, nose, and eyes is of particular risk to all attending surgery if the patient is positive for the virus (which they may not know). It is also known that any proximity to people who are infected puts one at risk.
The upper airway is what harbours the virus in highest concentration. Keep in mind that anybody having a general anaesthetic needs to have their upper airway managed while they are asleep.
The Specialist Plastic Surgery Practice of Peter Callan is very concerned about the safety of our patients and our staff. As we are a practice that focuses on surgery of the face, nose and eyelids, including injectables, we feel the risk to our patients and staff is unacceptable at present.
As of Friday 20th March we have suspended all elective surgery, all injectable procedures, makeup sessions, dermapens and peels. Elective surgery and procedures are (by definition) safe to postpone, which is just about everything we do here at Peter Callan Specialist Plastic Surgeon. This is the recommendation of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (with advice from the Australian Government), and the World Health Organisation.
We will contact any patients who are booked. We will resume surgery and our practice when it is safe to do so.
For new patients please call us. We are always happy to chat and will schedule appointments when safe to do so. We are scheduling virtual consults for those who would like to chat live with us using live video.
